The World Affairs Council of Charleston (SC) Announces its September 12, 2019 Business Luncheon Program on:

The Economic Vitality of India

-The estimated India GDP growth rate, as of March 31, 2019 is 7.1%

-Capital: New Delhi

-Population 1.1 billion

-Major industries include: Textiles, food processing, chemicals, cement, steel, software, mining and petroleum (as of January 2019)

India is in the limelight of economic growth and potential transformation. The recently re-elected prime minister, Narendra Modi wants to reenergize the country's global status. With a population of 1.1 billion people and positive GDP (gross domestic product) growth rate, India is on the threshold of great advances. 

The luncheon program will start with an Update India presentation by Dr. Swati V. Kulkarni, Consul General for India from Atlanta, GA. Dr. Kulkarni is a medical doctor whose previous diplomatic posts include stints in Mumbai, India, Cape Town, South Africa, Muscat, Oman and Mauritius.

The presentation will be augmented by a panel of senior executives from two impressive Indian owned companies. One executive is from Novelis, Ltd. based in Atlanta. Novelis is the leading producer of rolled aluminum products and the world's largest recycler of aluminum. The company has customers globally and includes South Carolina companies: BMW, Mercedes Benz, Volvo, Daimler, LG and Samsung, among others.

The second Indian company represented on the discussion panel is Sundaram-Clayton, which has a new manufacturing facility in Ridgeville, South Carolina. Sundaram-Clayton (SCL) manufacturers aluminum cast iron products. A senior executive from the company will join us to discuss his company and move to South Carolina. One of their big clients is Cummins. This $40 million investment hopes to create 100 new jobs at the plant.
