November Far from its usual icy area of operations in the Arctic, the Coast Guard's largest vessel and one of two icebreakers was ported in Charleston on a sunny fall weekend. A group of 20 WACC members enjoyed a private tour of Healy, which serves as a floating research laboratory that hosts up to 50 scientists collecting data in Arctic waters and on the Antarctica land mass. As a Coast Guard Cutter, it also supports other missions in polar regions, such as search-and-rescue, environmental protection, and law enforcement.
